Poor snakes didn’t ask to be there but they are an ecological disaster. We’ve lost the battle, sadly, but it helps to keep reducing the numbers. I support the law. I remember the Everglades before pythons…so sad. My father taught me to handle snakes when I was a child in the 50s. Only time I was bitten was by a stunning water snake in San Antonio, minding his/her business. Not amused when I caught it…bit my finger to the bone. A useful lesson. By the time I was in my teens I was moving all kinds of snakes, including rattlers, out of human busy area to protect them. Too elderly and disabled to even get out…miss my wild buddies. Mark Tawin wrote a very moving short stosry from the point of view of animals dealing with trains. I can only imagine what he’d say about cars.

In the late sixties my father’s buddy would mail tokay geckos to my dad here in Miami from his airbase in Thailand during the Vietnam war. My father would turn them loose specially for roach control. On occasion the mailman would deliver the tube holding it at an arms length due to the dead animal inside.

It's so unfortunate for these invasive pythons, but it is because of pet trade that irresponsible people buy them, not ensuring that their enclosures are escape proof for them to get out, also you get people who buy it and a few months later drop them off in the nearest bush because they don't want them anymore or can't take care of them, instead of handing them over to people who would take care of them. It breaks my heart, but they have to protect their species and environment, because invase species over run the environment and destroy the eco system. It's the same thing everywhere with different kinds of resptiles, it's very sad. But I pray that they will find a better way to deal with invasive species going forward. Very hard to watch and listen to. 😢

This issue has me so incredibly torn. I understand the ecological and conservation implications and ramifications that will follow if they are left unchecked. I understand the need for a law like this to protect the native ecosystem and wildlife. BUT …. As an avid reptile and all around animal lover, regardless of the reasons I find it hard to justify. It breaks my heart knowing these beautiful animals and being dispatched just because they were unlucky to be born on the wrong side of the planet.

If there are even close to 500,000 burms out there, then this is already a lost battle and snakes are being killed for no reason. You're not gonna get them all. They're there now. I think this is sport/trophy hunting under the guise of ecological management.

Hi Dav, as horrible as it is to willingly kill any creature, especially one as majestic as a python it is a necessary evil- thanks human shortsightedness. Over here in England we have so many invasive species , including the North American Grey Squirrel (thanks for that), doing huge damage to our eco system, yet there are no massive movements or public engagement to do anything about it. Move power to the Florida snake hunters, go get a bagful!

I don't really understand how anyone could think that turning an animal's body into pointless human fashion is somehow less wasteful than allowing it to feed the environment.

I love all your videos, kind of a sad ending but unfortunately the pythons in Florida are invasive and taking over the wildlife in Florida. I hate to see these Beauteous snakes being killed I do wish there was a more subtle way like capturing them and shipping them to Indonesia where they naturally thrive like on a ship or something. I wish there was more place in Florida for these incredible snakes. Still a great video!
